A youth looks at a replica of an ‘Homotherium venezuelensis’ (scimitar-toothed tiger) fossil during an exhibition in Caracas February 2, 2013. The original fossil was found at the site “Breal de Orocual.” The site was located by state oil company Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) in 2006, when they were working on the installation of a pipeline. According to specialists in the field, “Breal de Orocual” is the second largest in the Americas and is considered one of the most important paleontological sites in recent decades for the study of Late Pleistocene vertebrate fossils, reported local media.
