A man whose brain was impaled by the metal leg of a stool has amazed medics by making a full recovery after they removed it from his skull. The victim – who has not been identified by police in Serbia, Russia – is believed to have been the victim of a vicious bar fight. Astonishing X-rays released medics who operated on the man, show the stool leg penetrating more than four inches (11 cm) into his brain. “There are times when even the most experienced doctors are amazed by the nature of the injury,” one of the surgical team at the Krasnoyarsk Region Clinical Hospital told local media. Lead neurosurgeon Dr Pavel Rudenko explained later: “We removed the metal body from the patient’s head without complications.” “The man spent two weeks in intensive care in a serious but stable condition,” he added. Since coming to, the patient – believed to be aged between 40 and 45 – has been able to move and feed himself properly but faces a lengthy period of rehabilitation. “There seems to be no gross motor function disorders but he is still recovering,” said hospital spokeswoman Irina Kochetkova. Police say they are waiting to interview the man as soon as medics say he is fit. “He arrived at hospital in am ambulance with no paperwork or explanation about how he was injured,” said a police spokesman.
