El alud que el miércoles sepultó el hotel de Rigopiano en el centro de Italia con una treintena de personas en su interior pesaba casi 120.000 toneladas y arremetió contra el edificio a una velocidad entre los 50 y 100 kilómetros por hora.





El teniente coronel de los carabineros forestales (Meteomont), Vincenzo Romeo, aportó estos datos en declaraciones al canal SkyTG24 pero subrayó que por el momento se trata de una estimación realizada tras una inspección en el lugar de la avalancha.

La cabecera o zona de origen del alud tenía una longitud de 250 metros y un espesor de dos metros y medio.

Los carabineros creen que en su origen, el alud pesaba entre 40.000 y 60.000 toneladas pero aumentó hasta las 120.000 toneladas al deslizarse 2 kilómetros por una pendiente de 35 grados y alcanzar una velocidad de 100 kilómetros por hora.

A su llegada a la zona donde se asienta actualmente, sobre el hotel, ha cubierto con 300.000 metros cúbicos de nieve un área de ochocientos metros de largo por cien de ancho, con un espesor de cuatro metros que ejerce un peso de 400 kilos por metro cúbico.

El corrimiento de nieve se produjo el pasado miércoles cerca del macizo del Gran Sasso, en plena cordillera de los Apeninos, después de las intensas nevadas caídas en la zona y supuestamente originado por los terremotos que sacudieron el área aquel día.

El cúmulo de nieve se desprendió de la cresta del monte Siella, situada a 2.027 metros de altitud, arrastrando rocas, árboles y detritos y precipitándose sobre este el hotel balneario, ubicado a unos 1.300 metros.

El balance provisional en vidas humanas de este suceso se sitúa en 11 personas salvadas con vida -9 de ellas de entre las ruinas-, 5 cadáveres y una veintena de desaparecidos, que están siendo buscados sin descanso y en condiciones extremas por los equipos de rescate. EFE
