La batalla de las naranjas, el histórico carnaval de un pueblo de Italia (fotos)

Faltan pocos días para el Miércoles de Ceniza y en el pequeño pueblo de Ivrea al norte de Italia arrancó la celebración con cientos de kilogramos de naranja. El cítrico es el arma que utilizan en una épica contienda, reseña ngenespanol.com.





La Batalla de las naranjas es el evento más esperado durante el Histórico Carnaval de Ivrea. Se celebra por tres días consecutivos previos al Miércoles de Ceniza en diferentes plazas del casco histórico de la ciudad. Le anteceden desfiles, ritos y espectáculos que reviven episodios de la historia italiana.

“El carnaval nace, como todas las fiestas del inicio de la primavera, con un ritual natural: remover la tierra para plantar un árbol que se quemará al final de la fiesta, para permitir a la comunidad renacer de sus propias cenizas”, afirman los organizadores.

Con el tiempo, al festejo se le fueron sumando otros eventos de la memoria colectiva de la región. El principal es un episodio que data de la Edad Media, cuando un barón hacía pasar hambre a la ciudad, hasta que los habitantes, inspirados por la hija de un molinero, deciden rebelarse. Hoy se forman nueve equipos de hasta 4 mil integrantes cada uno. El pueblo es representado por los naranjeros de a pie que no llevan ninguna protección, combaten contra el ejército del Señor Feudal, que van en carros tirados por caballos y equipados con protecciones que recuerdan las antiguas armaduras.

La joven rebelde es la figura más importante: va en un carro alegórico regalando flores y caramelos. Tras ella, flautistas y tamborileros le agregan el toque musical. Los asistentes deben llevar un gorro rojo en forma de calcetín llamado “frigio”, que será el signo que indica que participan simbólicamente de la revuelta.
