Pope Francis holds the relic of Mexican Maria Guadalupe Garcia Zavalain in St. Peter’s square at the Vatican during the Canonization mass on May 12, 2013 of Italian Antonio Primaldo and his companions, Colombian Laura Montoya Upegui and Mexican Maria Guadalupe Garcia Zavala. Pope Francis canonized the first saints of his reign, an Italian from the fifteenth century martyred for refusing to convert to Islam, as well as a Colombian and a Mexican who both died in the twentieth century.
