Donald Trump juró el viernes como presidente de Estados Unidos, asumiendo el control de una nación polarizada a la que prometió poner por encima de todo en cada decisión que tome para beneficiar a sus ciudadanos frente a las dinámicas de la economía global, reseña Reuters.





“América primero”, enfatizó en su discurso luego de jurar como cuadragésimo quinto presidente del país norteamericano.

Al mismo tiempo que se registraban varias protestas en Washington, Trump levantó su mano derecha y posó la izquierda sobre una Biblia usada por Abraham Lincoln, repitiendo el juramento de 35 palabras ante el presidente de la Corte Suprema de Justicia, John Roberts.

Al lado de Trump estaba su esposa, Melania, y otros miembros de su familia. Luego pronunció su discurso inaugural de unos 20 minutos.

“Este momento les pertenece a ustedes”, dijo al hacer énfasis en que sus políticas estarán dirigidas a ayudar a las familias de clase media, a mejorar las fuerzas armadas estadounidenses y al reforzamiento de las fronteras.

“Estamos transfiriendo el poder desde Washington D.C y devolviéndoselo a ustedes”, agregó.

El traspaso de mando de un presidente demócrata a uno republicano tuvo lugar en el lado occidental del Capitolio ante ex presidentes, dignatarios y miles de personas congregadas en la Explanada Nacional.

Más temprano, Trump escribió en Twitter “¡Todo empieza hoy!” alrededor de las 07.30 hora local. “Nos vemos a las 11:00 para la ceremonia de juramentación. ¡CONTINÚA LA ACCIÓN – EMPIEZA EL TRABAJO!”.

El presidente pasó la noche en una residencia de huéspedes oficial cerca de la Casa Blanca y luego asistió a misa en la Iglesia Episcopal de San Juan, a una cuadra. Con un traje oscuro y corbata roja, Trump estaba acompañado por su esposa, Melania, quien lucía un conjunto azul de estilo clásico, y su familia.

La seguridad fue reforzada en los alrededores de la Casa Blanca y el Capitolio. Las calles cercanas al hogar de Trump fueron bloqueadas al tránsito por camiones de recolección de residuos y autobuses vacíos, mientras oficiales controlaban bolsos y carteras a peatones en puestos de seguridad temporales.

Los puntos de control en la Explanada Nacional frente al Capitolio abrieron temprano para comenzar a recibir a los concurrentes, algunos de los cuales llevaban gorras rojas con el eslogan “Devolvamos la Grandeza a Estados Unidos”. Trump, de 70 años, entra a la Casa Blanca con trabajo pendiente en la mejora de su imagen.

En el período de transición desde su pasmosa victoria de noviembre, el empresario y ex estrella de la televisión hizo numerosos ataques en Twitter contra sus detractores. Tantos, que el senador John McCain, compañero en el Partido Republicano, dijo a CNN que Trump parecía querer “enfrentarse a cada molino de viento que pudiera encontrar”.

Una encuesta de ABC News/Washington Post publicada esta semana observó que apenas un 40 por ciento de los estadounidenses tienen una opinión favorable de Trump, el porcentaje de aprobación más bajo para un presidente entrante desde el demócrata Jimmy Carter en 1977. La misma proporción aprueba el modo en el que el líder manejó la transición.

Trump prometió llevar al país por una senda más proteccionista y ha dicho que impondrá un arancel de 35 por ciento en los productos que empresas nacionales fabrican en el exterior e ingresan a al país.

Por otro lado, el deseo del republicano de una relación más estrecha con el líder ruso Vladimir Putin y sus amenazas de cortar el financiamiento para la OTAN tienen a los aliados de Estados Unidos urgidos por una eventual reducción de la tradicional cobertura de seguridad de ese país.
