Un bebé de oso polar, que tendría que convertirse en la nueva mascota de los berlineses tras la muerte del oso Knut en 2011, fue bautizado Fritz, anunció el martes un zoo de la capital alemana.





El animal nació el 3 de noviembre en un zoo del este de Berlín. Acaba de pasar la fase crítica de los tres primeros meses durante la cual las posibilidades de supervivencia de un oso nacido en cautiverio son muy bajas.

Una radio local, que lanzó un concurso para encontrar el nombre a la futura mascota local, anunció que recibió 10.000 proposiciones procedentes de todo el mundo.

“Estoy muy feliz con este nombre, un nombre corto y simpático que los visitantes extranjeros recordarán fácilmente”, informó Andreas Knieriem, director del zoo Tierpark, en referencia al inmenso entusiasmo suscitado por Knut, el difunto oso que vivía en el zoo del oeste de Berlín.

Knut, un osezno blanco que emocionó al mundo entero poco después de su nacimiento en 2006 al ser el primer oso polar nacido en cautiverio desde más de 30 años, murió brutalmente en 2011.

Gracias a Knut y a su fama planetaria, este zoo ganó millones de euros, también con sus productos derivados.

Fritz y sus padres, Tonja y Woldja, no estarán visibles al público hasta la primavera, precisó el zoo.
