Las luces se apagarán en todo el mundo a las 20.30 del sábado por la noche, para celebrar la décima Hora Anual del Planeta y para llamar la atención sobre el cambio climático, reseña Reuters.





La iniciativa del Fondo Mundial para la Naturaleza (WWF) comenzó en Australia en 2007 como un gesto contra las emisiones de dióxido de carbono producidas por el hombre.

El 2017, consistirá en apagar las luces eléctricas durante una hora en 7.000 ciudades de 172 países, a las 20.30 hora local, con el objetivo de resaltar la necesidad de actuar sobre el cambio climático y de ahorrar unos pocos megavatios de energía en el proceso.

Si bien los organizadores de la Hora del Planeta dijeron que no auditan los resultados de ahorro de energía de la iniciativa, el grupo ha encargado una investigación que indicó que hasta uno de cada cuatro australianos participa.

WWF dice que la Hora del Planeta puede acreditarse varias iniciativas ambientales, como la declaración de un parque marino de 3,4 millones de hectáreas en aguas de Argentina, la plantación de un bosque en Uganda y la prohibición de los plásticos blandos en las Islas Galápagos.
