Contienda electoral en Kenia deja al menos 11 muertos tras ola de violencia (+fotos)

Al menos 11 personas murieron en Kenia desde al anuncio el viernes por la noche de la reelección del presidente Uhuru Kenyatta, un resultado que la oposición denunció como una “farsa” advirtiendo que no se dejará “intimidar” y que tampoco va a “ceder”.

Tan pronto como la Comisión Electoral comunicó la reelección del líder de 55 años, para un segundo mandato de un lustro, estallaron disturbios en los bastiones de la oposición.

El país no es ajeno a la violencia postelectoral, hace diez años, más de 1.100 personas murieron y 600.000 abandonaron sus hogares en dos meses de enfrentamientos tras la reelección de Mwai Kibaki.

Desde el viernes en la noche, ocho cadáveres han sido llevados a la morgue de Nairobi provenientes de los suburbios de la capital, según una fuente policial.

“Los cuerpos provenientes (de los suburbios) de Mathare, Kibera y Kawangware son ocho desde la noche pasada y fueron transportados a la morgue de la ciudad”, indicó a la AFP, bajo condición de anonimato, un funcionario policial.

Siete de los muertos presentan impactos de bala. El cuerpo de una niña que murió el sábado por la mañana en Mathare debía también ser recuperado, añadió.

Según un recuento de la AFP, el balance de víctimas mortales en los enfrentamientos postelectorales se eleva a 11 personas.

La cifra incluye un hombre fallecido en el condado de Kisumu, en el oeste de Kenia, y otro muerto en la ciudad de Siaya, en el suroeste del país.

Convencidos de que les habían robado la victoria, los partidarios de la oposición desataron su ira en el oeste del país y en barrios pobres de Nairobi como Kibera, Mathare o Kawangware.

En Kisumu, en el oeste del país, “tenemos a una persona muerta y otras cuatro ingresadas en el hospital con heridas de bala”, declaró a la AFP Ojwang Lusi, responsable de salud del condado.

“No sabemos por qué disparó la policía”, lamentó Truphena Achieng, cuyo hermano resultó herido.

En el condado vecino de Siaya, un alto responsable policial confirmó la muerte de una persona. “No hemos logrado recuperar el cuerpo de ese chófer de mototaxi debido a la resistencia de los manifestantes”.

En Nairobi, en el barrio de Mathare, una niña de nueve años murió por disparos el sábado, y la organización Médicos Sin Fronteras (MSF) anunció haber atendido a 19 heridos desde el viernes por la noche en la misma barriada.
