Arranca la ceremonia de inauguración de los Juegos Olímpicos de Invierno PyeongChang 2018 (FOTOS)

La ceremonia de apertura de los JJOO de Invierno de PyeongChang arrancó hoy en el estadio olímpico de este condado surcoreano, marcada por el desfile conjunto de las dos Coreas y la histórica presencia de autoridades norcoreanas.

Con una cuenta atrás y fuegos artificiales, comenzó una ceremonia que presencian unas 35.000 personas y en la que las dos Coreas realizarán su primer desfile olímpico conjunto en 12 años bajo la mirada desde tribuna de una delegación del Norte encabezada por el presidente honorífico, Kim Yong-nam, y Kim Yo-jong, hermana del líder norcoreano Kim Jong-un.





La presencia de Corea del Norte en los Juegos responde a los acuerdos logrados en unas conversaciones intercoreanas en enero que marcaron un importante acercamiento tras años de tensas relaciones marcadas por los avances del programa armamentístico del régimen de Kim Jong-un.

La asistencia de oficiales de tan alto rango del aislado país asiático es muy poco común en un evento global como este, en el que también están presentes el vicepresidente de EEUU, Mike Pence, y el presidente del país anfitrión surcoreano, Moon Jae-in.

Moon Jae-in y el presidente del COI, el alemán Thomas Bach, saludaron tras el arranque a Kim Yong-nam y Kim Yo-Jong y a otras autoridades presentes en la tribuna, como Shinzo Abe, aunque entre ellas no se vio Mike Pence.

Es la primera vez que Moon y la hermana del líder norcoreano se ven las caras después de que ella aterrizara en Corea del Sur.

Después se interpretó el “aegukga”, el himno surcoreano, y las cámaras solo mostraron a Moon y a la primera dama surcoreana en pie, sin encuadrar al resto de la tribuna.

En total, 2.925 deportistas de 92 países diferentes tomarán parte en los XXIII Juegos Olímpicos de invierno, los mayores hasta la fecha y en los que se repartirán 102 oros.

Los 15 deportes que incluidos en la cita se desarrollarán en 12 recintos (cinco para hielo, siete para nieve) situados en torno al condado surcoreano de PyeongChang (a 130 unos kilómetros al este de Seúl), donde se celebrarán los Juegos hasta el próximo 25 de febrero.

EEUU cuenta con el mayor número de deportistas 242 (cifra récord en unos JJOO de Invierno), mientras que de Rusia, otra de las potencias mundiales en deportes de Invierno, habrá 168 atletas que competirán bajo bandera neutral, que el país está suspendido por el COI por un escándalo de dopaje.
