Smolansky reported that 5.1 million Venezuelans have left the country, and approximately 112,000 have returned to Venezuela due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

On the returnees – “106,000 migrants have done so from Colombia and about 6,000 have done so from Brazil,” he said.

The Commissioner said that the number of Venezuelan migrants in the world exceeds the total populations of countries like Panama, Costa Rica and Uruguay, Ireland, Kuwait and New Zealand.

Maduro’s tyranny generated a migration crisis similar to that of countries at war. Venezuelans continue to be the second largest refugee population in the world, only surpassed by Syria, which has been at war for nine years,” he denounced.

More than 76% of Venezuelan migrants and refugees are in Latin America, with Colombia (1,750,000) and Peru (900,000) being the countries with the most displaced people, followed by Chile (445,000), Ecuador (417,000), Brazil (260,000) and Argentina (150,000).

Smolansky reiterated that only the restoration of democracy in Venezuela will slow down the human landslide that the country is suffering and that causes repercussions in every country of the continent.
