Josep Borrell affirmed that the EU Mission documented the “detention of opponents” during its visit to Caracas

The High Representative of the European Union (EU), Josep Borrell, expressed his concern about the arbitrary arrests and the escalation of violence in Venezuela during the visit of the Exploratory Mission of the European Union to Caracas.

“I have been very concerned that during the presence of that mission there were arrests of opposition political leaders, whom the Government accuses of very serious charges,” he said during his interview with the Spanish newspaper El País.

Mr. Borrell reported that the EU Mission documented all the acts of violence and violation of human rights in Venezuela, these will be incorporated into its report on the situation in the country, which will decide whether to send an Electoral Observation Mission for the coming regional and municipal elections.

The head of European diplomacy expects to have the report between August and September to ‘analyze’ it technically.
