The pestilence that disturbs the inhabitants of the lower part of Barinas (city) has its origin in an improvised dump that has been forming in the project that Chavismo refused to finish: the so-called “Mercado de Mayoristas del Sur” (Wholesale Commodities Market).

Dimas Medina, a resident of the Prados del Este urbanization, located in front of the “Mercado de Mayoristas del Sur”, at the end of Agustín Figueredo Avenue, denounced the presence of unscrupulous drivers who stop at this place to leave bags with solid waste.

This area has been a focus for illegal garbage disposal and subsequent contamination. On several occasions, the piles of waste have become clearly visible across the avenue and very close to the public transport stop. The Barinas mayor’s office has cleaned the site, but the deposition and accumulation of waste has returned.

This new improvised “garbage dump” is in the area of what would have been the parking lot of what was to become “Mercado del Sur”, as can be detailed in the construction project. Those who dispose of garbage there are not afraid of being singled out and have even been photographed to record their “filth” that is affecting several communities and nearby neighborhoods.
