La nevada obliga a cancelar vuelos y cerrar carreteras en el Reino Unido (fotos)

El aeropuerto de Birmingham, en el centro de Inglaterra, ha cancelado hoy sus vuelos por la fuerte nevada caída en gran parte del Reino Unido, que ha provocado el cierre de carreteras y una gran alteración en los medios de transporte.





Las nevadas se concentraron en el centro de Inglaterra, pero también en Escocia y en la capital británica.

El aeropuerto de Birmingham no ha podido decir cuándo espera reanudar sus vuelos, pero el Servicio de Meteorología ha anticipado más nevadas para la jornada, con una acumulación de unos veinte centímetros en algunos lugares del centro de Inglaterra.

El mismo servicio ha anticipado que ciertas zonas rurales, especialmente en Gales y el oeste de Inglaterra, pueden quedar incomunicadas, sin acceso a carreteras, por la nieve.

La carretera M1, una de las más importantes del país, permanece cerrada en un tramo del condado de Leicestershire, norte inglés, debido a que varios vehículos han quedado varados.

La Policía en Gales y en el centro de Inglaterra ha pedido a los motoristas que no viajen a menos que sea “absolutamente necesario”.

Según el Servicio de Meteorología, se esperan fuertes nevadas hasta las 18.00 GMT de hoy, con una acumulación de entre cinco y veinte centímetros en algunas zonas.
