Una lancha rápida turística explotó frente a la famosa isla de Phi Phi en Tailandia, y 16 personas que iban a bordo resultaron heridas, informa el portal news.com.au

Koh Phi Phi, ubicado en la provincia de Krabi a 780 kilómetros al sur de la capital, Bangkok, es conocido por sus playas vírgenes. La pintoresca Bahía Maya fue el principal lugar de rodaje de The Beach, un éxito de Hollywood lanzado en 2000.





Los 31 turistas a bordo de la lancha rápida, 26 de ellos chinos y el resto de ciudadanos tailandeses, fueron rescatados por las autoridades locales luego de que el barco explotó y se incendió el domingo, según el jefe de policía de la isla, Boonthawee Thoraksa.

Los 16 turistas heridos fueron enviados a un hospital local para recibir tratamiento.

El capitán del barco se encontraba entre las tres personas que sufrieron quemaduras graves en el accidente, dijo Boonthawee.

La policía señaló que la causa de la explosión fue gasolina derramada en la parte delantera del barco. Luego, el fuego se extendió a toda la embarcación, lo que provocó que los turistas saltaran al mar.

El barco, que viajaba entre Phuket y la isla Phi Phi, se hundió después de que todos los pasajeros fueron rescatados, agregó la policía.

Los accidentes en embarcaciones son comunes en Tailandia.

En enero del año pasado, 18 turistas fueron rescatados después de que su barco se incendió y se hundió cerca de Koh Lipe, otra popular isla en el sur de Tailandia.
