Perros, gatos, pájaros, flamencos y hasta delfines. Los animales que viven en la zona del Caribe están, como los humanos, afectados por el paso del huracán Irma, de categoría 4, que generó vientos de más de 250 kilómetros por hora y ya dejó al menos 23 víctimas fatales.

En Miami, donde ya comenzaron a llegar las primeras lluvias relacionadas al fenómeno, tuvieron que mudar a los flamencos del zoológico a un lugar bajo techo.





En la misma ciudad, varios refugios reciben a los ciudadanos con sus mascotas. No solamente aceptan perros y gatos, también pájaros, hámsters y conejos, por ejemplo.

Otro lugar que fue preparado para proteger mascotas durante el huracán es la casa museo del escritor Ernest Hemingway en Key West, Florida. Se espera que el huracán toque tierra mañana en ese estado. En la propiedad viven 54 gatos. Los nueve empleados que trabajan allí juntaron agua y alimentos para resistir la llegada de Irma y cuidar a las mascotas.
